FAQs About OUR Radon Mitigation System

Is there a safe level of radon?
Technically, no level of radon is considered completely safe since any exposure carries some risk. However, the EPA has established 4 pCi/L as the action level where mitigation is recommended. The average outdoor radon level is about 0.4 pCi/L, and the goal of mitigation is to reduce indoor levels as close to outdoor levels as possible.
What types of radon mitigation systems are available?
The most common and effective system is Active Soil Depressurization (ASD), which uses a fan to draw radon from beneath your foundation. Variations include sub-slab depressurization, drain tile suction, sump hole suction, and block wall suction. The best approach depends on your home's foundation type and construction characteristics.
What is passive radon mitigation?
Passive radon mitigation relies on natural air pressure differentials and thermal stack effects to vent radon without using a fan. While less effective than active systems, passive systems are sometimes installed in new construction and can later be converted to active systems by adding a fan if testing reveals elevated levels.
Can I install a radon mitigation system myself?

While DIY installation is technically possible, professional installation is strongly recommended. Improper installation can result in an ineffective system, wasted money, and continued radon exposure. Our technicians have specialized training and experience that ensures your system is designed and installed correctly for maximum effectiveness.

What's the difference between interior and exterior radon systems?

Interior systems route the piping through your home, often through closets or utility areas, with the fan typically located in the attic. Exterior systems mount the piping and fan on the outside of your home. Both are equally effective—the choice often depends on aesthetics, accessibility, and your home's specific layout.

Can a single radon mitigation system protect my entire home?

In most cases, yes. A properly designed single-point system can effectively reduce radon levels throughout an entire home. However, homes with multiple foundation types, additions, or complex layouts may require multiple suction points or systems to achieve optimal results.
